With all shops in the same complex this is an easy one stop outing that will save time and all parties can focus on the task at hand, makeovers, coffee and catching up.

Blue Grass Park

Looking for a place where you can take the kiddos without worrying about what may or may not happen? Well, try Blue Grass Park in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Not only do they offer covered picnic areas and a large field for games of kickball, football or kite flying but there is a large park structure complete with several slides, swings (for all ages) and a sandbox. Best of all there is a water park.

Water Fun

No we are not talking about about wading pools and kiddy swimming pools. Blue Grass offers intricate sprinklers with many different options of water fun. There are sprinklers that shoot water straight out of the ground, poles where water drops down on top of you and circles that spray water sideways for run through fun.

Take Ramsey Rd to Dalton Ave and turn left, if coming from the freeway. Follow Dalton Ave down until you see the park on the right hand side.

Meeting the St. Joe River outside Avery, ID

Need a road trip to relax after a long week at work? Can’t find a sitter and need a family outing? Pack a lunch, grab a camera, maybe some sleeping bags and a tent and buy a few things at the store. Tell everyone to pile in the car, hook up the 4-wheelers and head out on the open road. Sure you can take I-90 all the way up to Montana, but why not make a weekend of it. Get off the main road and take some back trails instead.

Whether you are coming down from Montana or up from Spokane, take exit #34 (St. Maries/Rose Lake) and drive on down to the Avery turn off, right outside St. Maries . Don’t worry about getting there in a hurry, just take your time and enjoy the sites. With the St. Joe River off to you right you are bound to see wildlife, waterfalls, rushing creeks, alcoves and caves.

While you’re out take the turn off to Red Ives and check out the campsites, maybe pitch tent for the night. Everyone climb on the 4-wheelers and make sure you hit every bump along the way to Red Ives Ranger Station.

Oh wait, what’s that up ahead? His four legs are at a brisk trot as he bravely wonders from side to side on the road ahead of you. His ears are pointed backwards, he can hear the roar/sputter of the Kodiak engine. He is still a little unsure of what to expect and the young bull moose slips gracefully down the bank of the river as your team rushes nosily past.

No matter what you may encounter during your trip across the upper state, know that your family will enjoy everything you see. Stop in St. Regis before heading back home from your trip and grab a bite at Huckleberry Patch restaurant or grab a buffalo burger from Frosty’s Drive-in.

Kiwanis Park

We recently had a chance to visit two of Post Falls many parks. Though, both were enjoyable they each have their own uniqueness about them.

Kiwanis Park, off Ross Point Rd, offers a large play structure and bathroom house. The park is surrounded by trees and gives you that feeling of back to nature all the way around. There are also hiking trails and large covered picnic areas perfect for bbq’s or a nice spot to enjoy lunch away from work. Kiwanis Park also offers a great view of the Spokane River and taking a stroll on the hiking trails you can come right down to the river itself.

From CDA, take the HWY 41/Ross Point Rd exit and turn right onto Ross Point Rd. Follow Ross Point Rd down around the bend and Kiwanis Prk will be on your right hand side. Turn into the second entrance and you will see the bbq/picnic areas on either side of you. The park will be at the back of the long entrance. From Spokane, take the Hwy 41 exit and turn left onto Seltice. At the first light (Ross Point Rd) turn right and follow above directions.

Syringa Park

Syringa Park, located at Syringa and Bogie, offers a more open and inviting play area. Where there are a lot of benches for sitting on, there are not a lot of options for picnic tables. There is a large central covered sitting area with four picnic tables and a few scattered around the park. Syringa Park also offers a large play structure but in addition offers a valleyball court.  There is a small restroom with water fountain outside. The one thing that Syringa Park has that Kiwanis does not is a garbage can in every direction. Syringa park also offers walking trails, as does Kiwanis, but without the large pine trees and overhead shade.

From CDA, you can also take HWY 41 exit to reach Syringa Park. Turn left onto Hwy 41 and follow it to Poleline, turn left at the light. Turn right onto Syringa and follow it up until you reach Bogie, turn left. The park will be on your left hand side. From Spokane, take HWY 41 exit and turn left onto Seltice. At the first light (Ross Point Rd) turn left again and follow above directions.

The Yellow House

Ever get a craving for something really good, but you don’t want to make it? Well, head on over to Hayden and stop in at The Yellow House. This quaint little house, with old time heritage, is nestled off of Government Way and offers an array of different salads, soups and sandwiches. With wallet friendly prices you are sure to leave with a belly full and a quilt free mind, but leave room for desert. The Yellow House offers many types of pies, cakes and cookies.

The dining room is decked out in everyday wood finished tables, that seat four and a feel of Grandma’s kitchen with farm fruits and veggie pictures on the wall. If you sit in the larger part of the dining room you can actually see the siding from the original house.

The Yellow House is located at 11068 N Government Way and is known for its homemade pies and cakes, just call ahead if you would like to have one special ordered. Stop by during lunch hours Monday thru Friday or Saturdays 11am to 2:30pm or call in an order today. 208-762-1040

Northwest blvd entrance, Coeur d'Alene, ID

Ever needed a getaway but couldn’t get time off work or schedules clashed? Well, stress no more. There is a quaint little “village” in downtown Coeur d’Alene that could quite possibly soothe all getaway woes.

The Village at Riverstone offers everything from dinning to home. With movie theaters, restaurants and furniture stores you only need to walk out your above store condo to be in your own oasis away from home.

Looking for a day to relax and pamper yourself? Walk a block to Zi Spa and take a break from time. Need a touch of serenity? Take a walk on the Riverstone Park and Lake trail, stop and the fountain pond or gaze at the rock formation waterfalls. There is no doubt your troubles will melt away. Sit down on one of the many benches that line the park, bring a good book and let the kids play.

There is a variety of places to eat throughout the Village as well. For a view of the Riverstone lake grab a seat at Bardenay Restaurant and Distillery. San Francisco Sourdough is a favorite among sub eaters and for the Italian eater in the family there is always Pizza Schmizza. Have a craving for Mexican, dine in at Azteca. Of course for all those families with picky eaters, why not stop at Red Robin? With a menu as diverse as your family, you are sure to please everyone. 

Just traveling through? Why not stay the night at the Hampton Inn & Suites located directly across the street from the Village. Unpack the car in a comfortable room and catch a movie at Regal Cinemas or grab a latte at Starbucks. Check out the specialty clothing shops hidden amongst the streets, with the Buckle, the Boardwalk, Zumiez and Aeropostale you are bound to find a trend for everyone on your list.
